 The Sacraments of the Church

The word "sacrament" comes from the Latin, and means an oath of allegiance, consecration, or solemn obligation.  The Christian Church uses the word to describe something sacred in character or significance: a spiritual sign, seal or bond (or a covenant held to exist between God and man.)"  ---Webster

There are seven sacraments.  They are:

Baptism

Lord's Supper

Confirmation

Foot Washing

Matrimony

Baby Dedication

Anointing with Oil

Believers may partake of the sacraments of the church.

We relate personally to God and His covenant through participating in the sacraments of the Church.  He in turn blesses us and manifest His Presence to us.  (James 4:8; Isa. 56:6,7)

Words alone cannot make spiritual truth real to the heart.  Actions, visible symbols, emotions, and experience shared with others make a lasting impression upon us which we will then call to mind each time we hear the words of the covenant oath we have made with God.  Only by acting out the meanings of entering into covenant with God do we realize the power of the agreement to bring us life or death.

God wants us to single out the occasion, time and place where we make a covenant with Him, by giving us an experience we will not forget.  This experience should be so dramatic and meaningful, that we pass it on to our children.
